Government transport rules

Today the governments rules and plans were unveiled, more specifically, transport plans. There some interesting points in which they have made, firstly for our hgv insurance customers, the government plans to introduce a system in which hgv drivers will be charged to ensure that UK hauliers meet a new fair usage policy.

General motor plans in which our motor trade insurance customers may find useful is that the newly formed government are planning a national recharging network for all the new hybrid and fully electric vehicles that are going to be growing in popularity. Something in which the government is highly focused on is cutting emissions. Lastly, they are going to put a stop to central funding for fixed speed cameras. We’ll let you be the judge on that last one.

Chrysler extends dealer network to Kent

Being from Kent and working at Broadsure Direct based in Ramsgate, Kent, we just can’t help but prick up our ears when you hear the words Chrysler and Kent in the same sentence.

It turns out that due to some noticeable profits last year, Chrysler are making steps forward to extend their dealer network. They started at the end of last year when they added 7 new names to their list and continue by coming down to Kent and signing up Ashford Orbital as their next dealer. Currently Ashford Orbital already do business for Mazda, Kia and Hyundai. It’ll be interesting to see how Chrysler do this year with the end of the scrappage scheme and the economy getting itself back on track!

New vehicle added to Police Fleet

With its good mpg and CO2 emissions, the Jaguar XF has been chosen by the Central Motorway Police Group to join its fleet of vehicles. The Model they chose is the Diesel S which does 42mpg and has a rating of 179 g/km. One major factor that the police took into account before chosing it for its fleet is that the Jaguar retains its vehicle value very well. In the first year, the new fleet vehicle still keeps 80% of its original value. If you have a fleet of vehicles and require fleet insurance then contact Broadsure Direct on 0845 658 6587 or visit their fleet insurance page.

Super Fast Ferrari sets new Nurburgring Record

On the 23rd April, the 7 minute barrier was broken on the Nordschleife circuit by the Ferrari 599XX. Its the first production-derived car to do it, based on the 599 GTO.

The 599XX has had many modifications from the GTO and some of which have actually been included now into the 599 GTO, the 599XX is of course designed for track racing but not necessarily official competitions. The car combined the new Actiflow system which has been developed to increase downforce was used for the first time and other minor tweaks which meant the amount of downforce at high speeds was incredible (up to 630kg at top speed). The car used a V12 engine from the 599 Fiorano with added modifications and developments. The final time for the lap was 6 minutes 58 seconds.

MG Returns with New “Zero”

Last year, MG released information of their new family car which should be coming out later this year. The MG6 was announced way back in November and according to the factory in the UK, the ZF is back in production so things are looking up for MG. Last Friday in the Beijing Motor Show, they released further information on the next car to be released, the Zero Concept. This is a 3/5 door hatchback which looks just a slick as the old ZR. Hoping to compete with the likes of the Ford Fiesta and Volkswagen Polo, MG are seeming quite confident that the Zero will hit a global market. The interior of the vehicle looks stunning and it sounds like the car is going to be packed with all latest gadgets.

Well the service currently only shows exterior views of buildings but Google are offering an extended service to Motor Traders/Dealers who wish to show off the interior of their premises/showrooms. Its a great opportunity for the traders to create a great impression of their interior and exterior and entice consumers to visit. Massive £10 million fine for Toyota

We reported yesterday that there were more cars that were having to be recalled from Toyota and in all the chaos, they are going to have to cough up a heavy fine.

Its the biggest fine that has ever been handed out by the US department of transportation and even though Toyota are denying actually hiding the faulty vehicles, they are still accepting responsibility of not handling the situation better. With recalls still taking place for the SUVs and Lexus, it shows its still not over for Toyota and they are going to have to take responsibility for anything else that is coming. The problems so far that have been listed since the initial recall of Toyota motor vehicles include faulty accelerator problems, potential roll over issues, stability management and weight distribution issues.

New Toyota Recall does NOT affect UK Models

Toyota have announced yet another recall scheme, this time for the Land Cruiser Prado and Lexus GX 460. According to Toyota, the stability of the vehicles changes the performance under different conditions which is severe enough for a recall to take place.

The good news for UK owners is that the right hand drive version of both vehicles are not affected due to way the weight is distributed around the vehicle. This is not good news for Toyota who are still losing money from the accelerator recall last year.

Nissan are next to offer their own scrappage scheme

Following in the footsteps of Vauxhall and Kia, Nissan traders are now offering their own discounts on new cars if their old cars are traded in. They are accepting cars that are as young as 7 years old, and are offering up to £2,000 offer certain new models of car. These include the new Micra, Note, Qashqai and Qashaqai+2. By lowering the age to only 7 years, they are likely to grab a high percentage of new car sales and most certainly boost the economy. The scheme is said to expire by June.

Vauxhall offer March promotion

Following in similar steps to Kia, Vauxhall have now introduced a promotion throughout march which they hope will boost sales after the scrappage scheme has ended. They are dropping the prices of some of their new entry level vehicles, whilst keeping the same specifications to try and entise customers in.

£1,000 will be knocked off the price of the new Corsa and £2,000 will be discounted off the new entry level Astra. The discounts are going to spread as far as other models such as the Insignia. The price reduction comes with the new ES & Expression range Vauxhall are pushing. This is the second car manufacturer to produce offers which fall in line with the scrappage scheme ending.
