Conservatives back idea for Lorry Charges

The conservatives have introduced plans to introduce charges made for British and Foreign lorries that are over 12 tonnes. There are hundreds of millions of pounds that are being lost to other countries that could be used within the British Exchequer. Their basis for this is that there are a large number of foreign trucks using our roads now and that presents a problem of “unfair compeition”.

An idea quickly dismissed by the liberal democrats was that foreign trucks are only allowed to bring into the UK, 100 litres of fuel. Used car sales for Fleet fall

Its the first time the fleet car sales have fallen since the end of 2008.

Its only a short fall too, only 2 percent and the overall value of fleet cars has gone up by 0.6 percent so its not a significant difference to make a big impact to companies and wholesalers. As the increases have only gone up little by little over the 8 months since the fall, its possible that they won’t increase any more and its come to a stand still. The reward for truck safety goes to…..

You guessed it, Volvo. As if they weren’t already getting attention in the media for all the truck safety tests and technologies they put into their trucks, they’re now winning awards for it.

More specifically, it was the Royal Mail service that won the award, but of course, they use the Volvo truck. Don’t get me wrong, from what the figures say, they deserved it: 55 safety features in total. Expanding on the Volvo truck safety article mentioned in previous blog posts. Today we look at the ART (Accident Research Team) and how they function to help prevent road traffic accidents and save lives.

Firstly, its worth noting that 9 out of 10 accidents are down to human error and only 10 % of those accidents include the truck drivers getting killed. So ART have got to be asking the right questions and making the right decisions first of all, before they can start developing any new technology.

When all of the data has been collected and analysed, along with the right questions being asked; research can acutally be conducted to develop ideas and technologies to better improve truck safety. ART celebrate their 40th anniversary at Volvo this year.

New mudflaps help lorry spray

New mudflaps are being produced which will help reduce the spray produced by lorrys by 40%. ‘Spraydown’ will make its debut on the Spraydown stand at the commercial vehicle show.

Spraydown are also to have said improved visability for following drivers by up to 40% compared with the standard mudflaps. As the new mudflaps reduce the amount of drag on the vehicle, fuel efficiency will also be improved.
