Government Extends Scrappage Scheme

The government is going to pump another £100 million into continuing the scrappage scheme. It has proved so successful and we have previously mentioned its progress many times on the blog.

Its good news for car owners also as the time for owning a car has extended by six months which means that if you own a V reg car, you now qualify for the scrappage scheme.

It will run till the end of February next year or sooner if the money runs out!

Latest research claims that last month in August car sales rose up to 5% higher than they were last August. Naturally we believe this is because of the government scrappage scheme. As car sales actually keep rising this year, it holds our government in good stead to get out of this ridiculous credit crunch.

Ford is still dominating the car sales with the highest percentage made, with vauxhall as always a close second.  All the major players in the car industry are now calling for an extension to the scrappage to help benefit the car industry. Mitsubishi’s scrappage scheme proves successful

Mitsubishi have decided to extend beyond the government’s scrappage scheme by saying that customers can trade in cars from 5-10 years old. The scheme has meant that sales are up and now 21% of sales are from the scrappage scheme.

Mazda sales increase

Mazda is the next company to start benefitting from 2009 new government schemes. It has been reported that sales are up at the first half of this year. Originally, the market was already down for mazda but this has said to have been drastically reduced. Mazda made a massive decision to reduce stock in its dealers which has proved to pay off.

In order for Nissan to meet the high demand of the UK scrappage scheme, the Sunderland plant is said to be employing an extra 100 members of staff.

The jobs are only temporary though, 3 month contracts, as with the other jobs handed out in the past few months. Its a short spell for the Sunderland branch and its not only UK thats demanding their models. The scrappage scheme in Germany is said to be putting high demand on Nissan as well.

Hyundai benefit from scrappage scheme

Hyundai are the next car manufacturer to benefit from the governments car scrappage scheme. They have claimed to have received around 11,000 orders so far, mainly on the i10 and i20 models.

Hyundai is calling is parent company in Korea for more orders to accomodate the large number of sales. The reasoning we think behind the orders is that the i10 retails for around £4,995 which is excellent value to the consumer.
