The new i30 from Hyundai is already proving a very popular car with its excellent reliability and fuel consumption. It won the award for the UKs most reliable car beating Jaguar who was the previous winner. Because of this, the driving school Bill Plant has decided to take on 600 i30 vehicles to build on their already large amount of i20 fleet cars. The deal is estimated at £7 million at show room prices and the excellent fuel consumption from the i30 seemed to be its major selling point to the driving school. The cars are set to start being delivered in the next month. If you have a fleet of vehicles then you can get a quote for fleet insurance from Broadsure Direct. Mazda to target small fleets
Mazda are introducing from the 1st May, a fleet deal for companies requiring 50 vehicles or less. Dealers are signing up to be able to do this deal which will involve an outsourced sales team that are going to target a large number of small businesses. This operation allows for Mazda’s own team to focus on large fleets while the outsourced company can focus on targetting the smaller fleets. Broadsure Direct offer fleet insurance, visit our fleet insurance page for more information.
Electronic Insurance Certificates
The ability to offer motor insurance certificates online will become part of legislation as of this month. Some insurance certificates are already offered online by some companies. As legislation is going to be amended, more and more insurance companies will eventually offer this facility and even the ability to send the insurance certificate via email. The idea is going to save the insurance industry millions and will greatly help the environment. More information is being exchanged over the internet and online so this is a great step in the right direction.
Winter costs Millions in Insurance Claims
The winter weather over the last few months has cost in total around 650 million pounds in insurance claims. The freezing weather, huge amounts of snow and ice has meant that the number of insurance claims has risen massively. These claims are relating to weather damage for example housing damage caused by large amounts of snow. Other insurance claims include motor vehicle damage where drivers have been unable to control their vehicle on the icy roads.
Its not only the snow and ice causing problems. The floodings that have happened around the country has also caused a problem for insurers with huge amount of flood damage claims. Last winter was recorded as the coldest winter in the last 30 years, insurers are no doubt hoping that this winter doesn’t cause similar problems and cost even more money in insurance claims.
Scrappage scheme ends
The end of March marks the end of the scrappage scheme, with a massive 330,000 cars sold since it began. Introduced last year to help the economic crysis, the scrappage scheme has helped motor traders sell so many cars that now that the country is finally out of a recession, the economic growth is hoped to continue. With the huge amount of cars sold means that the emissions of cars on the road has greatly decreased which is a positive move forward.
The scheme was extended twice since its introduction in May last year to continue to help struggling motor traders. But with the credit crunch now over and economy on the rise, its time for it to end. Visit Broadsure Direct if you would like a quote on motor trade insurance and fill out our form online!
Locations of uninsured drivers revealed…
A new survey carried out recently shows the locations of the highest percentage of uninsured drivers. These are the locations where the highest number of drivers have an IN10 on their license, this is the conviction code for driving without motor insurance. The town with the highest percentage was Sanquhar, Dumfriesshire which was around 28% of drivers had the IN10 conviction code. Coming in a close second with 24% was HebdenBridge, West Yorkshire. Out of the top 10, the last on the list was Notting Hill in London at 12%. Its good to see that no Kent towns made it to the top 10. If any driver is caught driving without motor insurance, there is a chance of a £200 fine and 6 points on your license, in worse cases, it could mean the car will get impounded and then a £150 collection fee.
Fleet managers – Consider the benefits of going Electric
With electric cars becoming more and more popular now, fleet managers are having to consider moving over the electric car for their fleets.
To try and push the electric car in the fleet market, there are lots of benefits that are being enforced. This includes saving a significant amount of money as electric cars are exempt from road tax and reduce costs for national insurance. The electric cars themselves are going to go down in price, as much as the thousands not hundreds. At the moment the electric car isn’t quite practical enough with questions being asked about charging stations and the how long the cars can run for. The government is going to lose millions on making the necessary arrangements for car tax etc. as well as installing charging stations at garages and homes.
I believe that these issues will be addressed and fleet managers will be more inclined to move to electric vehicles but at the moment it just doesn’t seem practical.
Introducing…. the new McLaren MP4
Not sheduled for release until 2011, the new (and orange) McLaren MP4 is looking stunning as you would expect. Inspired by the McLaren F1 cars, its shape and looks are going to match the power that is yet to be unveiled. The technology coming with this car is going to be completely unique. The gear changing system, the way the doors open are all going to give owners something truely special.
An adaptation of the paddle gear box has be redesigned and included behind the steering wheel, to change up a gear you push with the right hand and to change down a gear you pull the other side, neat eh?
Good news about the supercar is that there is an estimate of 4,500 being made, making many owners very happy (those that can afford one, and the insurance).
Fancy a new car for Xmas? These people do…
New car sales in November have gone way up by more than 50%, quite clearly these people are feeling like treating themselves this Christmas! One temptation may be that the uk government scrappage scheme is still going strong offering massive discounts on new cars in exchange for old ones. Who knows whether these increase of sales is because of Christmas or the scrappage scheme with things coming to an end early next year, it’s not likely it’ll continue. Good news for insurance companies who must be getting lots of new business from the increase in car sales.
Is protecting your no claims really worth it?
A nice idea to those wishing to protect their years of working up a good no claims record on their insurance premium. Whether you have motor trade insurance or just simple car insurance, is paying out for protecting your no claims discount really worth it?
Most insurance companies will have their own ways of calculating the actual discount you receive for having no claims so therefore it will have to be worthwhile to them having no claims protection. Some offer free bonus protection where as some companies can put a lot more onto a premium in exchange for no claims protection.
