Locations of uninsured drivers revealed…

A new survey carried out recently shows the locations of the highest percentage of uninsured drivers. These are the locations where the highest number of drivers have an IN10 on their license, this is the conviction code for driving without motor insurance. The town with the highest percentage was Sanquhar, Dumfriesshire which was around 28% of drivers had the IN10 conviction code. Coming in a close second with 24% was HebdenBridge, West Yorkshire. Out of the top 10, the last on the list was Notting Hill in London at 12%. Its good to see that no Kent towns made it to the top 10. If any driver is caught driving without motor insurance, there is a chance of a £200 fine and 6 points on your license, in worse cases, it could mean the car will get impounded and then a £150 collection fee.

Tougher punishments for uninsured drivers?

Some time ago, we done a post on uninsured drivers and the fact that some of them are getting away with paying less for a fine than they would for their insurance premium.

Building upon this issue which is clearly still in the media’s eye. Either tougher regulations are said to be put in place or a different solution found to stop drivers and especially young drivers driving around without car insurance.

Some insurers are apparently already trialling a payd (pay as you drive) scheme which naturally lowers the cost of the insurance premium and is useful for those young drivers that are perhaps students or don’t require the use of a car all the time. Its a possibility or there is also the possibility of making driving tests tougher and harsher to stop people passing that could be a risk on the road. If theres any more news on this, i’ll post it on the blog.

It is being pushed that its simply not worth the risk not getting car insurance.

Closely behind London was Merseyside and Manchester. Figures of around 500 vehicles a day are taken each day because of no car insurance.

Fines for uninsured drivers better than paying their premium?

It has been reported recently that in some cases, uninsured drivers are likely to pay less for a fine than they are for their insurance premium for the year.

Fines as small as £50.00 could be given out to uninsured drivers, meaning that for young drivers who could pay £2,500 – £3,000 a year for insurance, could be getting a better deal. Uninsured drivers are the cause of well over 100 road traffic deaths and surely the fines should be stepped up massively if paying a fine and losing their car isn’t ennough of an incentive for young drivers to buy car insurance.
