4 x 4 Mini, Electric Volvo & A new range of Hybrids…

A new year marks the beginning a whole new selection of motor shows. Its not long to go for the first one, based in Detroit, USA.

In 2010 we are expecting to most definately hear about the electric cars finally coming to be on sale but most definately the introduction of even more hybrid cars. In the new year, i’m sure there are going to be plenty of manufacturers showcasing what they have to offer in the electric car world and the hybrids. In the Detroit show there are going to be some big names showing off their fancy new hybrid cars. Volvo for one are going to be introducing their full electric car to come up against the BMW Active E which can be found here. Not much is known yet about the Volvo, all we do know is that its range is that of around 90 miles and can accelerate faster than a snail.

Honda are also going to introduce their new range of hybrid vehicles, promising to look sporty and drive sporty too! The biggest shock and talk of the show is no doubtly going to be the new 4 x 4 Mini Beachcomber. With totally new lights, grille, height and odd scoups in the bonnet, this car surely cannot be put into production at its current look, but we’ll see when its unveiled.

XC60 Re-Designed

The Volvo XC60 is given a makeover with the R-Design treatment. Pictures can be found from generic image search engines. The design boasts a fantastic sporty look like most of the R-Designed cars.

New options for the car include back seat entertainment and sheek looking sports interior. On top of that the whole shassis is now sporty and the whole drive of the car is totally re-tuned and modified. 18″ alloy wheels are also included, much like on the other R-Design models that have already come out from Volvo. To top it off, leather throughout the car and steering wheel. This should be another impressive triumph for Volvo and their R-Design.

Cars like the Volvo XC60 and other R-Design cars are on the market and if you have one and need insurance. Look no further than Broadsure Direct. You can get a quotation from www.broadsuredirect.com .

The reward for truck safety goes to…..

You guessed it, Volvo. As if they weren’t already getting attention in the media for all the truck safety tests and technologies they put into their trucks, they’re now winning awards for it.

More specifically, it was the Royal Mail service that won the award, but of course, they use the Volvo truck. Don’t get me wrong, from what the figures say, they deserved it: 55 safety features in total. If you have a Volvo truck that needs insuring, why not get hgv insurance from Broadsure Direct, visit www.broadsuredirect.com/hgv-insurance.htm for more information.

More info on Truck Safety

Expanding on the Volvo truck safety article mentioned in previous blog posts. Today we look at the ART (Accident Research Team) and how they function to help prevent road traffic accidents and save lives.

Volvo truck safety

Firstly, its worth noting that 9 out of 10 accidents are down to human error and only 10 % of those accidents include the truck drivers getting killed. So ART have got to be asking the right questions and making the right decisions first of all, before they can start developing any new technology.

When all of the data has been collected and analysed, along with the right questions being asked; research can acutally be conducted to develop ideas and technologies to better improve truck safety. ART celebrate their 40th anniversary at Volvo this year.

The Chinese to buy Volvo?!

It has recently been announced that car makers Ford are looking to sell their subsidary company, Volvo. The potential buyers include the Chinese companies Geely and Beijing Automotive. The price tag for Volvo? $1 – $2 billion.

However there has been other interest from Swedish investors which might be successful, but there is no doubt about it, Ford are still going to sell Volvo.

Intelligent and Safe – The Volvo Truck

Volvo say that truck accidents could be a thing of the past with their latest technology.

Already a safe vehicle, the Volvo truck is continuing to amaze people with the technology embedded in its Trucks. For example, the V2V or Vehicle to Vehicle system is already in development, claiming that eventually the vehicles will be able to communicate with each other and detect collisions in order to make the necessary movements to avoid an accident.

Another technology in production is the digital co-pilot scheme where a driver is guided by what to do if he or she should lose control or how to handle particular road challenges. Volvo trucks already use a breathalyser tester before the driver can even start the truck.

We look forward to these technologies to be tested and put in place!
