Frequently Asked Questions

Is Taxi Insurance more expensive than Car Insurance?
Yes. Higher mileage, longer road time, and frequent passengers increase accident risks, raising premiums compared to standard car insurance.
What is the difference between Private and Public Hire Insurance?
Private Hire requires advance bookings only. Public Hire accepts both pre-bookings and direct street and rank hailings. Rates depend on driver age, vehicle details, location, and mileage.
Can I use my private car's No Claims Bonus (NCB)?
Usually no, as most insurers require taxi-specific experience. However, we can refer your private car NCB to select insurers.
How many drivers can I have on my policy?
Some of our insurers can offer any driver policies on single vehicle taxi risks.
What is the difference between Uber Insurance and Private Hire Insurance?
They are virtually the same. Both are licensed by the local authority and require pre-booked journeys; neither can pick up unscheduled street hailings or use taxi ranks.
How old do you have to be to be a Taxi Driver?
We generally insure drivers aged 25+. Drivers aged 21–24 can be covered if they have held a full UK licence for over two years, though younger drivers carry a higher risk.
