Renault is set to unveil the Trafic E‑Tech electric van in the UK for the first time at this year’s Commercial Vehicle Show, marking a significant step forward in the brand’s electric light commercial vehicle strategy.
The new Trafic E‑Tech will be showcased at the NEC in Birmingham, giving fleet operators their first opportunity to see Renault’s next‑generation electric mid‑size van ahead of UK order books opening later in 2026.
Unlike earlier electric vans adapted from diesel platforms, the Trafic E‑Tech has been developed on what the company describes as a dedicated electric “skateboard” architecture, designed to optimise payload, range and usability for commercial operators.
Renault says this approach allows the van to maintain the familiarity of the Trafic while supporting significantly faster charging and improved digital capability.
A key feature is its 800‑volt electrical system, which enables rapid DC charging. Under ideal conditions, the battery can be charged from 15% to 80% in around 20 minutes, helping to reduce downtime for fleets operating on tight schedules.
Two battery options are expected to be available, allowing operators to choose between longer‑range capability and a more urban‑focused specification depending on requirements.
Despite its new electric platform, the Trafic E‑Tech retains a strong focus on day‑to‑day use. Load volume is expected to reach up to 5.8m³, with a payload of up to 1.25 tonnes and towing capacity of up to two tonnes.
The van’s overall height is a maximum 1.90 metres, which should allow access to most underground car parks, while a tight turning circle is intended to support manoeuvrability in urban environments.
The arrival of the Trafic E‑Tech widens the choice available to fleets looking to electrify the mid‑size van fleets.
Fast‑charging capability and flexible battery options may help make electric vans more viable for higher‑mileage operations, particularly where depot‑based charging is available.
Renault’s decision to present the Trafic E‑Tech in production form at the CV Show underlines the growing momentum behind electric vans in the UK market.
With order books expected to open later in 2026, the model is likely to attract close attention from fleets weighing up the next phase of their electrification plans.
