The UK Government has launched its new “Get that electric feeling” campaign — and while it’s aimed at the general public, there’s a lot in it that matters directly to fleets.
With EV running costs becoming a bigger part of business planning, this campaign arrives at a crucial time for operators considering the switch.
At the heart of the initiative is the Electric Car Grant, offering up to £3,750 off the cost of a new EV, alongside potential savings of £1,400 a year in fuel and maintenance.
More than 50,000 drivers have already taken advantage of these incentives, and the government is using real EV‑owner testimonials to show how the numbers translate into real‑world benefits.
For fleets operating multiple vehicles, this can mean significant savings, particularly on high‑mileage routes.
Access to charging stations continues to be one of the biggest barriers for fleets, but the campaign highlights that the UK now has over 87,000 public charge points, with a further 100,000 local chargers planned in the coming years.
The government has also committed to planning reforms, making it easier for businesses and drivers without private parking to install charging facilities.
Industry groups say the campaign couldn’t come at a better time. As the Climate Group points out, misconceptions about EV practicality and affordability still slow down adoption, even though one in four new cars in the UK is now electric.
For fleet operators EVs are becoming more financially attractive, the national charging network is expanding rapidly, and government incentives remain strong.
With commercial fleets playing a major role in the UK’s decarbonisation programme, this campaign signals that support for electrification — both financial and infrastructural — is only increasing.
